COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The top official at the Loyal Order of Moose and Moose International fraternal organizations has resigned, a week after a lawsuit alleged he molested a boy more than 30 years ago in Ohio and Louisiana.
Kurt Wehrmeister, spokesman for Aurora, Ill.-based Moose International and the Loyal Order of the Moose, says chief executive officer and director general William Airey (EHR'-ee) announced his decision to the Moose board Thursday.
A lawsuit in Franklin County court in Columbus by North Carolina physician Jason Peck alleges the abuse began in Ohio and continued elsewhere, including New Orleans.
The Associated Press generally doesn't identify people who claim to be victims of sexual abuse, but Peck has agreed to go public with his allegations.
A message was left Friday for Airey at his home.
