Twinsburg -- Pawsibilities, Humane Society of Greater Akron is experiencing critical capacity at its Darrow Road facility, according to Humane Society officials.

PHSGA rescues Summit County animals that are victims of cruelty, neglect and abandonment as well as sick and injured strays. Since the beginning of June, the society has rescued more than 335 felines.

Twenty-six cats and kittens were rescued in just one day July 1. Their situations varied from inadequate care to critically injured strays but the common thread was they needed help.

A few short weeks later, Humane Officers rescued 27 more, also in a single day, left with no one to care for them after one owner was hospitalized and another had passed away. A recent hoarding case has resulted in 23 additional cats, now safe from harm at the Darrow Road facility.

"We have rescued orphaned bottle-feeders (kittens too young to survive without their mother or human intervention) to senior cats," said President and CEO Diane Johnson. "Each of these animals were victims of abuse, neglect or abandonment and deserve the very best care we can give them. PHSGA exists to offer these underserved animals hope and a second chance at life. But we can't do it without support from our community. Help us save the lives of these victimized animals."

If interested in adopting, the society offers special adoption fees: Cats (older than 6 months) are $25; kittens are only $40 (or two for $60); and dogs (older than six months) are $75.

Consider a monetary donation to help provide shelter, food and vet care. Donations can be made securely at summithumane.org or can be mailed to 7996 Darrow Road in Twinsburg.

The society is in need of wire dog crates in good working condition (36-inches by 24-inches by 27-inches).
