1 LEARN ABOUT THE CLEVELAND INDIANS
Author Scott Longert traces the progress of the Cleveland Indians in the Great Depression years from 1927 to 1936 at the Nordonia Hills Branch Library April 27 at 1 p.m. It was a time for change, when radio came into play along with a huge new stadium in Cleveland, despite the fact that most fans did not have the money to buy a ticket. Prohibition ended and beer flowed freely in the ballpark. Hear the story of these colorful years. A book signing follows the program. Registration is suggested.
2 TAKE A HIKE TO SEE WILDFLOWERS:
Join a naturalist to see bluebells and other wildflowers that are blooming this time of year April 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Everett Road covered bridge, 2370 Everett Road in Peninsula.
3 BOWL TO SUPPORT CAMP HUDDLE:
Camp Huddle is hosting a Bowling Fiesta Fundraiser April 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. The fundraiser is for people of all abilities ages 3 and up. The cost is $15 per person or $25 for two people. The cost includes two hours of cosmic bowling, shoes, pizza, drink, karaoke and more. Proceeds will benefit the booth Camp Huddle is sponsoring at the Special Olympics at Nordonia High School in May. To purchase tickets, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 216-548-9621. Camp Huddle is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that offers art and sports clinics and various events throughout the year.
4 HELP FIGHT OPIATE ADDICTION:
By The Dawn's Early Light, a non-profit whose mission is "to improve the life of a chemical dependent person and his or her family, both physically and mentally, by providing guidance through financial help and knowledge of recovery programs," is hosting its first fundraiser called A Hope For A New Tomorrow April 29 from 4 to 10 p.m. Doors for the event will open at 4 p.m. and a spaghetti dinner will be served at 5 p.m. Beginning at 7 p.m. three comedians are scheduled to perform. The event also includes door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and a chinese raffle. Tickets cost $20 or 2 for $35 if purchased in advance. Tickets will be for sale at the door for $25 the day of the event. The event is being held at the Nordonia Hills Event Center in Summit Plaza in Northfield Village. All proceeds will go toward providing financial assistance for addiction treatment. The Nordonia Knights baseball team plays Stow-Munroe Falls May 1 and Wadsworth May 3 at 4:30 p.m., both days. The Lady Knights softball squad plays Hudson April 26 at 4:30 p.m., and South Range April 27 at 5:30 p.m. The boys tennis team plays Brecksville and Woodridge April 26 at 4 p.m., Brush May 1 at 4 p.m. and Akron Firestone May 2 at 4:15 p.m. The boys and girls track teams compete away this week and will return for Suburban League meets May 9 and May 11.
