1 ANNUAL PLANT SALE:
The Nordonia Hills Garden Club's annual plant sale is set for May 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the day before Mother's Day. The sale will be at the old Macedonia Fire Station on Valley View Road next to city hall. Those interested in attending are invited to come early, as there will be lots of bargains, including the beautiful "Million Bells" hanging baskets. Payment should be cash or check only.
2 DONATE TO HELP NORDONIA BASEBALL, EASTER SEALS:
Doing some spring cleaning? Easter Seals Northern Ohio is partnering with the Nordonia High School baseball program to give back to the community while helping children and adults with disabilities. NHS Baseball is hosting a "Fill the Truck" fundraiser to benefit the freshman, junior varsity and varsity baseball teams. Donations of cloth items are sought.
The Easter Seals bins will be located at the high school and middle school through May 22. To schedule pickup, call Jillian Heiser at 216-538-3577 or Denise Varner at 216-789-3051.
NHS Baseball will be compensated based on the number of bags/pounds of cloth/hard goods collected. Acceptable items include (but are not limited to): clothing, comforters, blankets, towels, sheets, shoes, accessories, and purses. NHS BB will earn 20 cents per pound from those types of cloth donations listed. Donations are resold at Easter Seals Thrift shops.
All donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt.
3 ENJOY A HIKE WITH MOM:
Enjoy a relaxing Mother's Day stroll through the forest and meadow with Mom at Wood Hollow Metro Park, 2121 Barlow Road, Hudson, on May 16 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Participants will be on the lookout for birds, deer and other creatures who become mothers in spring. For information, call 330-865-8065.
4 HAVE A TREAT AND TALK AT THE LIBRARY:
Have some Cookies and Conversation on May 10 at 3:30 p.m. at the Nordonia Hills Branch Library. The second Wednesday of each month, meet to talk about what's going on in your life, school, town or the world. Attendees will discuss philosophy, current events or whatever is on the group's mind. And remember -- there will be cookies.
5 FISHING DERBY FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS:
The Goodyear Hunting & Fishing Club will host a Trout Derby for children and adults with special needs. On May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., families and individuals can join the fun at wheelchair-accessible Little Turtle Pond at Firestone Metro Park, 2400 Harrington Road, Akron. Only special needs children and special needs adults may fish during the event. Adults and guardians must supervise and can assist, but may not fish. Trophies will be awarded to kids 15 and under for the three largest fish caught.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment and bait. Some equipment and bait will be provided, and minnows are not permitted. Free hot dogs, chips and beverages will be served. For more information, call 330-865-8065 or visit summitmetroparks.org.
