Northfield VFW Post 6768 and the Auxiliary to VFW Post 6768 will be holding their annual Poppy Drive at Tractor Supply, 2011 Alexandria Drive in Macedonia on May 19 and 20.
The VFW and Auxiliary representatives will be in the parking lot in the VFW tent distributing poppies to all.
Any donation for a poppy will go directly to the Macedonia Veterans Memorial Park Fundraising efforts. The VFW and Auxiliary appreciate Tractor Supply for its support of the VFW and the Poppy Drive.
The goal is to have every person who attends the upcoming Northfield/Macedonia Memorial Day Parade on May 29 to wear a poppy for the 10 a.m. parade.
The VFW Poppy represents the fallen soldier. Poppies are made by patients in veterans hospitals nationwide The work they do provides needed therapy for hands and minds crippled by the ravages of war, and the pay earned provides a few simple luxuries to east the boredom of hospital life.
The poem "in Flanders Fields" was written by Col. John McCrue before World War I had completed. His poem has survived in print and in the minds and hearts of those affected by war.
Also at the VFW/Auxiliary Ten, they will be selling the Macedonia Veterans Memorial T-shirts for $10/shirt.
Information about the park and how to donate or purchase a memorial brick for a family member will also be available at the tent.
