Macedonia Planning Commission hears proposal for water park in Longwood Park

from staff reports Published:

A special meeting of the Macedonia Planning Commission was scheduled Dec. 3 to hear a presentation on the possible construction of a wakeboarding park in Longwood Park.

Assistant Building Commissioner Dennis Saxe said he did not have all the details, but that he believes the proposal would involve construction of a 10-acre lake.

The special meeting was requested by two individuals, Eric Elnikar and Rob Lewis, who paid $350 for what the building department describes as a "Cable Park proposal at Longwood Park," according to the application filed with the city Nov. 19.

Wakeboarding parks use cables suspended from a main cable tracked over the water to pull people riding surfboard-type "wakeboards" around a series of ramps and other features.

There are about 150 wakeboarding parks around the world, including one in Fairfield, Ohio, according to industry website cablewakeboard.com.

Though details of the proposal were not immediately available, this isn't the first time a private party has approached the city for use of land in Longwood Park.

The private development firm 2Club Golf constructed a 40-acre golf course-driving range on the north side of Longwood Park in 2006 under a contract giving it the right to operate the facility as a private business.

That facility is now being managed as the Windmill Golf Center, which is required to pay the city rent of $1,000 per month.
