Pooch Palace is a cage-free zone

Macedonia -- After five years in Twinsburg, Pooch Palace is moving its dog daycare and boarding facility to Northfield Center.

Pooch Palace will open March 1 at 285 E. Twinsburg Road, just east of the Route 8 overpass. The entrance is on the main building's east side.

The public is invited to an open house Feb. 26 from 4 to 6:30 p.m., where homemade dog biscuits will be given away. It is about three miles from the current site on Route 91 near Twinsburg Road.

Owner Jill Giesey, a Hudson resident said she needed more space and is pleased with the new location. It is about 6,000 square feet in size, much larger than the 2,400 square feet she has had.

"It's a very attractive location," she said.

Giesey said dogs are not kept in cages. Most stay in communal areas, divided according to size and temperament, but private accommodations are available.

Staff is on duty at all times to not only supervise the dogs, but to give them attention and play with them.

"We have couches in all the rooms and the doggies love to lie and jump on them," Giesey said, adding that there are also plenty of toys.

There are also two outside fenced yards for large and small dogs.

"There's playground equipment as well as pools and sprinklers in the summer" said Giesey.

Giesey said owners typically provide food their dogs are used to and she will shop for food for dogs that are boarded for an extended period. Fresh food made on the premises is also available for dogs who will not eat their regular food because of the stress of being boarded. Pooch Palace also offers professional grooming services, inhome services for owners who prefer to leave their dogs at home, and, starting in April, training classes taught by "The Puppy Whisperer" co-author Terry Cranendonk.

Dog drop-off times are Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with pickups allowed until 6:30 p.m. Dropoffs and pickups on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Clients should make reservations for boarding to ensure space is available and all dogs must be up to date on vaccinations.
