The Ohio Department of Transportation is making plans to improve Route 8 in Summit County between Graham Road and Route 303 in Stow, Hudson and Boston Heights and has scheduled an “Open House Public Involvement Meeting for June 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the ODOT Summit County Garage, 6155 Chittenden Road in Boston Heights. The meeting will have an open house format with no formal presentation.
The project will be built when construction funding becomes available. The estimated construction cost is approximately $77 million.
The project will include about six miles of pavement reconstruction, drainage and signing work.   Proposed structure work will include deck replacement and widening of the Route 8 bridge over Hudson Drive, deck replacement of the Route 8 bridge over Mud Brook and minor rehabilitation of eight additional Route 8 bridges. Minor ramp configurations, including the lengthening of acceleration/deceleration lanes are also proposed.
At least two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Route 8 during construction, but ramp closures of up to 90 days are expected, including the northbound entrance ramp from Graham Road while the Route 8 bridge over Hudson Drive is reconstructed.
Hudson Drive under that bridge would be closed for 30-45 days.
The Route 8 northbound entrance ramp from Route 303 will be reconfigured and closed for approximately 90 days. Short duration ramp closures, such as a weekend, may be necessary for other minor work activities.
This public involvement meeting is an opportunity for the public to provide comments, but comments will be accepted through June 28 by mailing Edward W. Deley, Jr., District 4 Environmental Coordinator, Ohio Department of Transportation,  2088 S. Arlington Road, Akron, 44306-4243.
