Summit County Executive Russ Pry will not run for re-election this November.
The executive's office released a statement Friday, July 29, which said that Pry, who has served for the past nine years, will drop out of the race to focus on his recovery from health issues. He plans to notify the county elections board today that he intends to withdraw his Nov. 8 candidacy, the news release from the executive's office states.
Pry underwent laparoscopic surgery last month to remove a cancerous tumor in his colon. The release states there is no current timetable for Pry to physically return to work but he is managing the affairs of the office in communication with Chief of Staff Jason Dodson, who will keep overseeing daily operations.
Pry will continue to serve as county executive until the end of his current term, which ends Dec. 31, the news release states.
