Members of the Macedonia Police Department, Sagamore Hills Police Department, Summit County Sheriff's Office, Macedonia Fire Department and Northfield Center-Sagamore Hills Fire District put themselves and their equipment on display Aug. 2 at the Target store in Northfield Crossings for National Night Out, a nation-wide community policing effort meant to build relations between law enforcement and residents.

Sagamore Hills Police Patrolman Dan DeCrane, the department's spokesperson for the event, said that locally, fire departments are also invited to participate. In Nordonia Hills, "It's more of a show and tell of emergency forces," DeCrane said, adding about 300 residents attended between 6 and 9 p.m.

Macedonia police collected items for The Emergency Assistance Center with a "Fill A Cruiser" food drive, which resulted in more than 400 pounds of food and hygiene items, said EAC director Joyce Hunt. She said 381 individual items were collected, along with $20 in cash donations and a $75 Target gift card.
