Kristen Cottrell, who served as principal at Campus Elementary School in Streetsboro since 2012, has resigned to become an elementary school principal in the Nordonia Hills City School District.
The Streetsboro Board of Education unanimously approved her resignation July 14. It was effective July 26, according to Superintendent Michael Daulbaugh.
Cottrell will become principal of Ledgeview Elementary School, which houses grades K-4.
Her first official day was Aug. 1, but Superintendent Joe Clark said he gave her five days to work in July to help in her transition.
Asked what qualities led him to recommending Cottrell, Clark said, "Great references, strong knowledge of curriculum and instruction, passion for children, strong communicator, experience, sense of humor, knowledge of evaluation system and enthusiasm."
Cottrell's annual base salary will be $90,584, Clark said.
Daulbaugh said Cottrell was brought to the Streetsboro district in 2011 as an assistant high school principal, then became Campus principal the next year.
"I wanted to thank Kris for her service here in the district," Daulbaugh said July 14. "She is really going to be missed. She has decided that she needed some different challenges."
Daulbaugh said Clark called him about Cottrell.
"He said they are excited to have her," Daulbaugh said. "We wish her the best of luck."
Daulbaugh said Cottrell "had become the principal in the district who was the data guru. Anyone here will tell you that. She immersed herself in trying to find purposeful points of data and using that data [for] instruction. That, and the hard work by the teachers, are the primary reasons why the Campus [state report card] scores went through the roof."
