Macedonia °-- The Macedonia Senior Center is holding it's first ever Senior Safety Fair Oct. 6 at 11 a.m.

The event is open to all Nordonia Hills seniors, not just members of the senior center. There will be a crime safety awareness presentation and a senior self-defense class presented by Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh and Summit County Sheriff Steve Barry.

Additionally, several local sponsors will have informational booths for those in attendance, including Comfort Keepers, Heritage of Huson, Maplewood at Twinsburg, Enhanced Rehabilitation Services, Medical Service Company, Hospice of the Western Reserve, Lifeline, Best Approach Consulting and Simply EZ.

Senior Center Coordinator Cheri Kuczma said she has 75 people registered for the event at press time, with room for 25 more.

"I'm looking forward to meeting new faces," Kuczma said. "It's a good way to try out the senior center and just get out and meet new people."

She said vendors the senior center works with, wanted to have the safety fair and some of the sponsors reached out to the prosecutor and sheriff's office to bring their safety talks to northern Summit County, as they have done similar presentations in other parts of the county.

The Macedonia event will also feature a free lunch, giveaways and door prizes.

The Macedonia Senior Center is lat Macedonia City Hall, 9691 Valley View Road. Reservations are required by calling 330-468-8300, ext. 432.
