MACEDONIA -- Motorists were forced to detour around Summer Road from Monday afternoon through late Tuesday morning, after a garbage truck struck a wire and broke a utility pole on the road.
FirstEnergy spokesman Mark Durbin said the incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. between Route 82 and Melody Lane. The road was closed because wires were hanging onto the road and while utility crews worked to replace the damaged pole, according to Macedonia Police Lt. Vince Yakopovich.
The road was reopened around 11:20 a.m.
Durbin said FirstEnergy workers completed replacement of the utility pole and power lines around 1 a.m. Other utilities, including telephone and cable providers, were then allowed to transfer their lines and equipment to the new pole, Durbin said.
Yakopovich said the garbage truck driver was not cited.
