Boston Heights man accused of rape turns self in

A 42-year-old Boston Heights man who was wanted on a Feb. 10 rape warrant turned himself in to the Summit County Sheriff's Office Feb. 22.

Raymond C. Gates was named Fugitive of the Week Feb. 21 by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. He was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Summit County Sheriff's Office on a charge of first-degree felony rape.

According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office Gates was charged after officers were dispatched to a Northfield Center home Nov. 11, 2016, after a caller reported a disoriented elderly female had knocked on the rear door. The woman was barefoot and unable to communicate.

An investigation reveled the woman had been sexually assaulted.

According to police, the alleged rape did not occur in the township but in Boston Heights and the woman had walked to Northfield Center.

The woman, 65, was identified and transported to the Cleveland Clinic for medical evaluation.

As of press time there is no court hearing scheduled for Gates, according to court records.
