Summer career camps at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for 2008 will conducted June 16 through 20 and June 23 to 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day at the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center campus. Camps are $135 for each students, except the Solar Camp, which is funded by another consortium. Solar Camp is free and available to eighth- and ninth-grade Six District students. All other camps are open to students in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades. One $10 early bird discount is available per student for those who sign up before May 8. Registration packets and details on camp activities are available at www.cvccworks.com. Camp information line is 440-746-8115. The following camps will occur both weeks of June 16 and June 23: Car Care for the automotive service industry; Chef for a Week for culinary arts; computer aided design class; media technology class; and a construction trades class. The following career camps will only will be conducted the week of June 16: Solar Car; cosmetology; horticulture; digital design; and bio-technology classes. These camps will be offered the week of June 23: teaching classes; math classes; remedial reading; engineering technology; and programming and software development. Camp counselors (there are two per camp) are certified teachers from CVCC and the school districts in the Six District Compact. Camps are limited to 18 students and employ learning techniques and hands-on skills. Friday luncheons with parent participation and displays of campers' projects will take place each week, and free parent sessions on helping students plan for their careers will be at 11 a.m. CVCC is located one mile east of the I-77 and Wallings Road exit. An early supervised camper drop-off at 7 a.m. is available but campers must be picked up by 2:15 p.m. Comments
