Despite being a little short-handed, the Nordonia High School girls track and field team edged Green in a dual meet May 8. The Knights beat the Bulldogs by the score of 70-67.

On May 6, Nordonia dropped a 74-63 decision against Stow-Munroe Falls. Both contests were on the road for the Knights.

"We were down a few people, so it was nice that we could still get the win," said Nordonia head coach Ron Gura. "We won a lot of events, but Green took a lot of second and third places. That made it close. With Stephanie and Robyn out, we only scored 10 points in the field events, while Green scored 35. We scored just one point total in the shot put and discus."

Nordonia was without the services of Stephanie Skrovan and Robyn Sims, their two best throwers, against Green. Regardless, the Knights were still able to post a three-point victory, mainly through their high number of first-place finishes.

Amanda Osborne accounted for two of those finishes, placing first in both the 800-meter run (2:38.0) and the 1,600-meter run (5:39.0). Cara Boliantz was also first in a pair of events -- the 200 (26.5) and the 400 (59.7).

Also placing first in two events was Jenna Gura, who did so in the 100 high hurdles (16.5) and the 300 intermediate hurdles (50.7).

Two other Knights finished first. They were Kaitlin Mabin in the 100 with a time of 12.7 and Lila Martis in the high jump with a height of 4-10.

Three of Nordonia's relay teams also crossed the finish line in first place. The 400-meter unit (Gura, Chelsea Lampert, Erin Isaac, Mabin) posted a winning time of 51.6.

The 800 contingent consisted of Cally Rahal, Lampert, Boliantz and Mabin (1:49.3). The 3,200 squad, meanwhile, contained Osborne, Miranda Pomiecko, Demi Cingel and Jessica Grams (10:58.0).

Lauren Bokovitz placed second in two events for the Knights. They were the high jump (4-8) and the 100 high hurdles (17.5).

Also placing second were Lampert in the 200 (28.2) and Grams in the 3200 (12:24.0).

Four Knights captured third place in individual events. Among them were Danielle Zuercher in the shot put (30-8), Bokovitz in the long jump (14-11.5), Rahal in the 100 (13.4) and Pomiecko in the 3200 (12:56.0).

In the loss to Stow, Skrovan claimed first place in two events. They were shot put (33-3) and discus (104-5).

Boliantz finished first in two events, as well. She was first in the 200 (26.9) and the 400 (60.6).

Also placing first were Gura in the 110 high hurdles (16.8) and Mabin in the 100 (12.9).

Nordonia's 400 relay team was first with a time of 50.1. The members of that unit were Gura, Boliantz, Rahal and Mabin.

The Knights' 800 unit placed first with an effort of 1:48.3. That squad consisted of Gura, Michelle Scott, Rahal and Boliantz.

Rahal was second in a pair of individual events-the 100 (13.0) and the 200 (27.2). Others finishing second were Sims in the shot put (30-1), Jennifer DeBrouse in the pole vault (7-6), Bokovitz in the 100 high hurdles (17.8) and Gura in the 300 intermediate hurdles (51.4).

Bokovitz also notched a third-place finish, doing so in the long jump (14-9). Also placing third were Martis in the high jump (4-10), Kycia Baynard in the discus (83-11) and Osborne in the 1600 (5:39.2).
