Registration for our summer camp has started. Come and check out the Counselor in Training program for 13- to 15-year-olds. This program is designed to teach leadership skills and provide work experience in a safe and inviting atmosphere. For more information, contact Alan Hamski at 330-468-8376. Hike in the night Join us at Longwood Park for a moonlit hike on the trails June 13 at 8 p.m. Stargaze while listening to the restless quiet of the night. Explore the sights and sounds of nature while testing your nocturnal senses. The hike will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by games, marshmallows, s'mores, and a fire. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a flashlight. Little Naturalists coming This program will introduce your little one to nature. Children, ages 3 to 5 will have a chance to explore Longwood Park through hikes, activities, and workshops. The class will be taught by the Rec Center staff Mondays from 10 to 11 a.m. beginning June 16. The class will involve outdoor activities so please dress child appropriately. Deadline to register is five days before each event. Have a scuba adventure Have you always wanted to learn how to scuba dive? The Buckeye Diving School and Macedonia Recreation Center are here to help. Ages 12 and up are welcome. Call to register. Experience gaming in Salamanca, N.Y. The casino has over 1,800 slot machines, all your favorite table games, eight clans of gift shops, Thunder Mountain Buffet, and live music. Depart from the Macedonia Family Recreation Center at June 23 at 7:30 a.m. and return home at approximately 8:30 p.m. Take pleasure in five hours of gambling and receive coupons, $20 for slots and $5 for food. Register now for the rec center's Tot T-Ball season, June 24 to July 29. Children will have two weeks of practices, with games on Tuesday evenings. Macedonia Tween Commission forming The Macedonia Parks and Recreation Department is looking for interested students entering sixth through ninth grade to be part of the 2008-09 Macedonia Tween Commission. The purpose of the commission is to identify the needs of the younger generation and to receive their input on youth services and programs. The commission will meet once a month. Interested individuals should contact the Macedonia Family Recreation Center for more information. Cheerleading Camp offered in July Campers in first through sixth grade will learn a variety of cheers, jumps, kicks and movements July 7 to July 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at Longwood Park. We'll also play fun cheerleading games, jump rope and decorate crazy uniforms to wear at an exhibition on the last day of camp. Parents are invited to attend the exhibition on July 11 at 11:45 a.m. "Three Cheers" camps have been developed by Jump Start Sports with the assistance of area cheerleading programs. The program provides girls and boys with a highly active endeavor in a noncompetitive environment that fosters fun and the development of friendships. Football Camp teaches fundamentals The All-Pro Football Fun Camp will teach campers in first through sixth grade the basic fundamentals of football in an atmosphere which emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and the joy of sports. The program is July 7 to July 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at Longwood Park. There will be flag football games, "NFL Fast Football" games, contests in punting, passing, and kicking, plus other fun football drills will be used to teach basic fundamentals. This program is ideal for boys and girls who have never played the organized game of football, as well as for those who have played youth football for several years. Moms in motion
Instructor: Debbie Pekar. Exercising during your pregnancy can be very beneficial and fun. This low-impact exercise class will focus on stretching, strength and endurance. Class meets twice a week. Mom and baby will both benefit from the soothing 84-degree water during a low-impact cardiovascular workout. Water combines buoyancy and natural resistance for a safe and effective exercise program. Bring your swimsuit and towel. Aqua shoes are recommended. This class is also a great way to socialize with other soon-to-be moms. A note from your physician approving you to exercise is required to participate in this class. Class size is limited to 12 participants. The summer II session is five weeks, July 15 to Aug. 14, from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fee: Program, $49; resident, $40; member, $32. Scorchin' Summer
The city of Macedonia Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Volleyfreak.com to present the 2008 Scorchin' Summer Classic grass volleyball tournament July 19. We encourage all levels of players, from beginners and competitive to corporate teams, to participate in a fun-filled day of volleyball. This is an opportunity to foster team building skills amongst co-workers, family, or friends and have a blast doing it! All participants will receive an official tournament T-shirt and a post tournament party at Scorchers in Twinsburg. Comments
