Library hours set

Monday through Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Friday: Noon to 6 p.m.

Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

'Catch the Reading Bug' this summer

Summer is coming and so it's time to "Catch the Reading Bug," the summer reading program at the Nordonia Hills Library. The summer reading program runs until Aug. 2. Readers age 2 to adult may register after they have read their first book.

Readers may turn in a book slip for each book they read.

Each reader will receive a surprise bag when they turn in their registration card and first book slip together.

There will be weekly drawings, as well as grand prize drawings in five age groups:

* Preschool, ages 2 to 5, not yet in kindergarten;

* Completed Kindergarten through starting Grade 2;

* Grades 3 to 5;

* Grades 6 to age 18; and

* Adult.

Picnic fun
with Chef Sarah

Enjoy an afternoon or evening outdoors with these fun picnic ideas. Chef Sarah Mentzer returns to demonstrate easy recipes for spicy watermelon salad, corn and tomato salad, picnic chicken with three sauces, and more.

She'll even have the packing list so you don't forget a thing. Adults, please sign up. The program is June 18 at 7 p.m.

Mystery book
group meets

Join fellow mystery readers for our monthly discussion on mystery, suspense and true-crime titles every third Wednesday of the month. Our next discussion topic will be "Lost," by Michael Robotham, June 18 at 7 p.m.

Summer reading program for teens offered

Students entering sixth grade and up will meet Thursdays, June 19 to July 31 at 2 p.m. Please sign up.

* Cartooning: Learn to cartoon with Jeff Nicholas June 19 at 2 p.m.

* Pimp our ride: Come decorate the book carts June 26 at 2 p.m.

* Bug out at the movies: Join us to watch the insect world attack. Will the earth survive? Find out July 3 at 2 p.m.

* Have any old books? We do. Come July 10 at 2 p.m. to turn them into something new.

Nordonia Hills
Game Time set

The library hosts a regular games "meet-up" session each month, welcoming patrons who enjoy a variety of games, including board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games and collectible cards.

The next meet-up will be June 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join fellow local players, sharpen your intellect, and enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No sign up is necessary.

Read with Jake

Meet Jake the therapy dog.

Read with a certified (Therapy Dog International) therapy Golden Retriever on Tuesdays, June 24, July 8 and 22 from 6:30 to 7:30.

Baby Time begins

Baby Time Story Time is 20 minutes of bounces, giggles, stories and fun for the littlest library-goers, aged 6-24 months, and their caregivers. Sign up for the summer session which runs Mondays, June 16 to July 7 at 6:30 p.m.

School-age
reading programs set

School-age programs are for children who have finished kindergarten through fifth grade Tuesdays at 2 p.m. until July 29

* All-a-flutter butterfly ranch: A "butterfly professional" is coming to visit. Get up close and personal with butterflies, chrysalis and caterpillars. Please sign up. The program is June 24.

* B-I-N-G-O! Let's play. Sign up for the July 1 program.

* Tangled webs: Can you weave as well as a spider? Sign up for the July 8 program.

* Akron Zoo: Come meet all kinds of creatures when the Akron Zoo brings its menagerie on the road. Sign for the July 15 program.

Bug 'n' Me
reading event planned

Sci-Mobile brings its Bug 'n' Me program to Nordonia Hills June 24 at 7 p.m. Families and children age 2 and older accompanied by an adult will see butterflies, ants, bug x-rays, a 3-D look at bugs and all things from a "bug's eye-view." Sign up now.

Join Coffee and Conversation

Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is July 10 at 2 p.m. We will discuss "The Year of Living Biblically," by A. J. Jacobs.

Our evening book discussion group usually meets the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion is June 25 at 7 p.m. We will discuss "The Memory Keepers Daughter," by Kim Edwards.

Nordonia Hills Scrapbookers meeting

Attention avid scrapbookers! Looking for space to s-p-r-e-a-d o-u-t for the whole day? Experienced and newbies alike invited to this all-day crop. Bring your gear, a lunch and a friend. New faces are always welcome. The group meets July 5 from 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

15 Minutes of Power

Motivational speaker Dr. Constance Longmire will present a seminar on her new book, "12 Peek Principles for Success, achieving personal goals and getting energized."

The program is July 10 at 7 p.m. Sign up is suggested.

Light fiction book discussions set

Do you like to talk about the books you read and enjoy? Then join us the second Monday of each month at 2 p.m. for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow fiction lovers.

In July, we will discuss "Dating Dead Men," by Harley Jane Kozak. Join us July 14 at 2 p.m.

Socrates Café
meets in August

Are you a parent looking for more opportunities to talk with other adults? A senior seeking ways to keep your mind active and engaged? A student working to improve reasoning and thinking skills? A person wanting to meet some of your neighbors in an informal and thoughtful setting?

If so, join us at the Socrates Café, a regular gathering of adults engaging in great conversation, exploring current events, thoughtful ideas, and reasoned debates. Come and take part, or just listen to the discussion Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

For patrons age 16 and over. No sign up necessary. There is no homework or assigned reading.
