The city of Macedonia Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Volleyfreak.com to present the 2008 Scorchin' Summer Classic grass volleyball tournament July 19. We encourage all levels of players, from beginners and competitive to corporate teams, to participate in a fun-filled day of volleyball. This is an opportunity to foster team-building skills among co-workers, family or friends and have a blast doing it. The Park and Recreation Department hosts community garage sales throughout the year. These are opportunities for families to bring their items to put on sale flea market style. Pre-registration is required, and all registrants will be assigned to a particular spot. The next sale is July 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, contact the Macedonia Family Recreation Center at 330-468-8375. Play flag football League play for kids 5 to 11 years old to learn football skills July 30 to Sept. 20. Kids will be divided into divisions based on age groups selected at random. Enjoy a day at Put-In-Bay Aug. 4. Participants will enjoy a guided train tour upon arrival to the island. Visit historic and attractive locations including Perry's Memorial, Heineman Winery, the Crystal Cave, and a delicious buffet lunch overlooking the park and bay. Have free time to shop. Every player will learn and improve their skills including dribbling, passing, trapping, heading, shooting and much more Aug. 11 to 15. The camp is directed by Otto Orf, a 21-year professional player. Half-day session is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and full-day session is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit www.handsonsoccer.com for more information. Bring back the past and play in the first Macedonia Adult Kickball Tournament Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. Teams must include four female and four male players on the field. The program is open to the first eight registered teams. Each team is guaranteed three games. Concessions will be available. Fall soccer
League play for boys and girls ages 4 to 14 will begin in late August. Children must have been born before September 1, 2004. All girls' and boys' league U10 to U14 will travel. Most games will be played on Saturdays with practices on the weekdays; kids on teams in the fall will stay on same team for spring of 2009 season. Family Olympics planned Macedonia will create its own version of the 2008 Summer Olympic events. The event will kick off with an opening ceremony displaying your family's colors. Families will compete in five events including running, throwing and much more. Medals and ribbons will be awarded to top three families of each event. Check back for more info. Comments
