by Dorothy Markulis Reporter Summit County -- Summit County voters re-elected John Donofrio as the county's fiscal officer in the Nov. 4 election. Donofrio, a Democrat, defeated Republican William "Bill" Conte 160,912 vote to 78,776, according to final but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections. His new four-year term begins Jan. 5, 2009. Donofrio began serving Summit County as its treasurer in 1979 and became fiscal officer in 2002 when Summit County Council eliminated the offices of auditor, recorder and treasurer, and transferred those duties to the newly created post. Calls to Donofrio were not returned by press time. Conte, a certified public accountant and president of Conte Financial Services Ltd. in Norton, said he "may run again" for the fiscal officer position. "I stand by my comments that Summit County [housing] values are significantly overstated, based on my research," Conte said. E-mail: dmarkulis@recordpub.com Phone: 330-688-0088 ext. 3143 Comments
