North Summit County -- A few high school students are seeking help for a local aid organization while at the same time entertaining area residents with hours of music.

Bands from around Northeast Ohio are scheduled to play at Twinstock, an all day music festival at Perici Amphitheater behind R.B. Chamberlin Middle School in Twinsburg on June 27 (see box).

Proceeds from the festival, as well as non-perishable food items collected there will be donated to the Emergency Assistance Center in Northfield Village, which provides temporary help for area families in need.

The event is being planned by Will Myers, Ian Bojalad and Matt Ciani, three of the five members of Saints and Poets, one of the bands that will be playing. Myers, his brother John, also a band member, and Bojalad are Twinsburg High School students. Rounding out the band are brothers Nico and Matt Ciani, students at Aurora High School.

"I think it's awesome what these kids are doing for the center," said EAC Executive Director Christine Ciryak. "I'm excited for them. I'm really looking forward to it."

Myers said that as of May 28, a half dozen bands had committed to playing at the festival.

"We're looking to get two or three more," he said. "We'll be showcasing local talent."

The other bands so far include The Crew and Rock U, both based in Twinsburg; The Gruntles, based in Aurora; Refugees, with members from Mentor and Montgomery county; and The Pursuit, based in Massillon. Myers said Twinsburg Police Chief Christopher Noga is expected to sing a few songs with Rock U.

Myers said he and his bandmates wanted to put on a festival, but rather than profiting from it themselves, they wanted to do it for a worthy cause. He said his mother Kim suggested the EAC.

"We really wanted to benefit the community and keep the money local," he said. "This will help families who have lost their jobs."

Ciryak said she is assembling volunteers to help at the festival with such tasks as selling and collecting tickets. She said volunteers will also collect any food items donated to the center at the festival.

"I just hope there's a great turnout," said Ciryak. "They want to make it fun."
