Letter: Suggests solution to I-271 problem

I believe Macedonia would be doing a disservice to residents and surrounding communities by closing the Interstate 271 ramp going north from the Route 82 east. I feel this has been a bottleneck area for a long time because the city never addressed a number of possible solutions.

I think the major problem is that traffic trying to go north gets backed up under the bridge in the turning lane, then under the light at Macedonia Commons Boulevard. Added to that confusion is the south lane going east, which suddenly becomes a right turn lane and people try to get over into the backed-up middle lane.

I think the light at North Bedford could hold up traffic going west long enough to clear the cars going north to I-271. Then there would not be any westbound traffic to block the ramp entrance, which is what blocks all the eastbound traffic.

I think another option would be to place a light just before the ramp so traffic could clear before the lights change, thus eliminating the bottleneck that presently exists.

I contacted the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 4, regarding the ramp closure and complained about having to go a mile south to go north, when our state tax dollars paid for these north and south ramps off of I-271 at Route 82. They informed me they have sent a letter to the city to delay the ramp closure until they re-evaluate the situation.

This northbound ramp to I-271 is a major entrance to northbound traffic and should not be closed by the city. I feel the reconfiguration of the light sequences can solve the problem.
