Former Councilor Mike Miller will join incumbents David Engle, Ken Martin and Shane Barker on Macedonia City Council next year. Planning Commission member Ed Morris, who served one term on city Council in the 1980s, finished fifth in the race for four available seats.

According to final, but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections, Engle was the top vote-getter with 1,716 ballots cast in his favor, followed by Martin, Miller, Barker and Morris, with 1,616, 1,559, 1,472 and 1,401 votes, respectiveley.

Barker, 41, who is completing his first term on Council, is a lieutenant with the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

“I’m thankful and humbled that people gave me a chance to do this over the next four years and I’ll continue to do the best job I can over the next four years,” he said.

Engle, 56, will return for a third term. He is an attorney and former city magistrate and has served as Council president for three out of his current term's four years.

"I’d like to thank the voters for their continued support and I look forward to working for the city for another four years,” he said.

Martin, 57, will also return for a third term. He is Council's representative to the city's planning commission, where he previously served about 20 years as an appointed commissioner.

“I’m very honored that the voters of Macedonia have given me a third term,” said Martin. “I will keep my promises. I will not vote to raise taxes or fees or utility costs. I will work to maintain the financial stability of the city and to work to maintain Macedonia as a place where people will want to live.”

Miller, 55, served on Council for one term from 2004 through 2007 and was a member of the city's charter review commission earlier this year. He is operations manager at The Box Office in Maple Heights.

"I look forward to doing a great job for the next four years and I thank the voters for coming out and supporting me," Miller said.

Morris, 66, had previously said he was looking forward to working with other members of Council.

“I want to thank the people who supported me and wish the best of luck to those who were elected,” said Morris.
