by Jeff Saunders Reporter Macedonia -- For owner Linda St. John, L&L Spaghetti House is a personal labor of love. "I'm not a chain," she said. "I'm not trying to have something big. Just a nice family-oriented restaurant." St. John opened the 75-seat restaurant on June 29 at 223 Highland Road, on the west side of Route 8 opposite La Quinta Inn and Suites. As the restaurant's name implies, spaghetti is on the menu, but it is not limited to that. "I have all kinds of Italian dishes, a child's menu, plus I have pork chops and steaks and seafood for people who don't like Italian," said St. John, who is also the cook. St. John said she will also prepare food platters for events, which can either be picked up or delivered. Prior to opening the restaurant, St. John worked for 18 years as manager and cook at Reggie & Wendy's Spaghetti House in Aurora. "They closed. That's why I opened my own restaurant," she said. For the time being, said St. John, the family theme extends to her staff. It currently consists of her husband, son, future daughter-in-law and a friend helping her out. St. John said she is doing what she can to get the word out about the restaurant. "Some days, business is pretty good, some days it's not. I have a lot of people tell me they didn't know I was here," she said. L&L Spaghetti House is open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The restaurant is also available for private parties after the regular dining hours.
