Nordonia High School graduate David Skarupa has been accepted into the fellowship program at the University of Maryland's R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. The one-year program begins in 2010. Skarupa is currently chief resident, general surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. The Detroit Medical Center Children's Hospital recently honored him with the 2009 Arvin I. Philappart Award for Surgical Excellence. It is awarded to one resident each year from all of the Detroit regional hospitals that send residents to the Detroit Medical Center. The award is for "Exemplary Performance and Dedication to the Surgical Care of Infants and Children." Skarupa is a 1992 graduate of Nordonia High School, where he was quarterback of the football team and a 3-year letterman in basketball. Skarupa graduated from Baldwin Wallace College, where he was also a quarterback. Skarupa obtained his medical training at the Ohio State University College of Medicine and also attended Case Western Reserve University. Comments
