Northfield Village -- Police charged a May Avenue man and two other men with multiple misdemeanors after neighbors reported hearing gunshots from the man's back yard early in the morning Dec. 8. According to police and court records, the 21-year-old May Avenue resident, a 21-year-old Huntington Drive man and a 27-year-old Akron man were charged in Northfield Village Mayor's Court with using a weapon while intoxicated and inducing a panic, both first-degree misdemeanors. They were also charged with disorderly conduct and using a firearm on or near prohibited premises, both fourth-degree misdemeanors. Police also charged the Akron man with second-degree misdemeanor obstructing official business after they said he initially denied that he and the other men fired a gun. Police responded to the home about 4:20 a.m. after a neighbor reported she was awakened by the sound of at least three gunshots. Police said another neighbor reported hearing five gunshots, then saw a vehicle driving toward Route 8. Police said they found a vehicle with the three men a short time later at a Route 8 service station and discovered an unloaded 9 mm handgun in the vehicle. According to police records, the Akron man eventually admitted the three of them had been drinking beer and had fired the gun before deciding to go to the service station to get cigarettes, said the man. The three men were given Dec. 22 mayor's court dates and released on personal bonds. Driving under suspension Dec. 12. Man stopped on Route 8: Police charged a 57-year-old Twinsburg man with driving under suspension after they stopped him on Route 8 at Filly Lane about 3 p.m. The man was given a Northfield Village Mayor's Court date and released on a personal bond. -- Northfield Center -- Theft Dec. 13. Woman reports theft of coat: A woman reported someone took her coat, with her house and vehicle keys and a credit card in the pockets, while she was at an Olde Eight Road bar about 3 a.m. Police said the matter is under investigation. Attempted identity theft Dec. 11. Man reports attempted fraud: A township man reported representatives from two credit card companies called and told him someone tried to open accounts in his name. Police said the matter is under investigation. Attempted burglary Dec. 7. Door knob damaged: An owner of an Olde Eight Road business reported someone apparently tried to break into the business during the previous few days. Police said the business' rear door knob was damaged. Drug possession Dec. 6. Woman charged with felony: An 18-year-old Garfield Heights woman did not enter a plea to fifth-degree felony drug possession at her Dec. 7 arraignment after police said she handed over two tablets of a prescription stimulant during a traffic stop the night before. According to Stow Municipal Court records, the woman pleaded not guilty to first-degree misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession, as well as marijuana possession and driving through a red light, both minor misdemeanors. According to a police report, a Summit County Sheriff's deputy stopped the woman after he saw her drive through a red light while making a left turn out of a Route 82 business' parking lot at about 11:05 p.m. The deputy reported seeing a marijuana cigarette on the car seat and when he asked her if she had anything else to turn over, she handed him the two pills in a small bag, another small bag containing a small amount of suspected marijuana and a pipe. The woman was released from Summit County Jail on a personal bond Dec. 7. Assault Dec. 2. Boy assaults another boy at school: Police charged a 14-year-old township boy with delinquency by assault in Summit County Juvenile Court after a Nordonia Middle School administrator reported the boy assaulted another male student at the school. Police said the other student, described in a police report as an acquaintance of the boy, suffered unspecified injuries, but was not transported to a medical facility. The township boy was taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center. Burglary Dec. 2. Video game system stolen: A North Oakmont Drive man reported someone broke into his home while he was out of town for several days and took a video game system and its remote control, totaling $355 in value.
