Macedonia -- Litter found outside a parked car resulted in a felony drug possession charge for a 28-year-old Bedford Heights man after police said they found about a pound of marijuana in the car Dec. 21.

Police estimated the marijuana's value at about $1,500.

According to Stow Municipal Court records, the man did not enter a plea to the felony drug possession charge at his Dec. 22 arraignment and was released from Macedonia City Jail on a 10 percent of $50,000 bond paid by a bail bondsman Dec. 23.

The man pleaded not guilty to driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor, littering, a third-degree misdemeanor, and minor misdemeanor drug possession.

According to a police report, a police officer on patrol saw a large amount of litter on the ground next to the car while it was parked in the road outside a Chinaberry Circle home at about 11:40 p.m. While the officer was standing next to the car, the man came out and admitted he had left the litter next to the car when he arrived, the report said.

The officer then checked a law enforcement online database and determined that the man's driver's license had been suspended. He arrested the man, who had put the litter into the car and was about to pull it into the home's driveway.

Police said they searched the man's car and found about one pound of marijuana in a bag. Police said the man also turned over less than half a gram of marijuana in a prescription bottle that was in his pocket. The substances in the bag and bottle both later tested positive as marijuana, police said.
