Northfield Village — Police say they arrested a 20-year-old Maple Heights man Dec. 18 after he allegedly drove his car through a medivac helicopter landing zone at Northfield Park. Police Chief Mark Wentz said the man drove between two police cars with their lights flashing, then passed within a few feet of the helicopter’s blades as an elderly village woman suffering from a stroke was being evacuated. According to a police report, the man was charged with failing to yield the right of way to emergency vehicles, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was also charged with driving under suspension and giving false information to police, both minor misdemeanors. Police said they stopped the man on Route 8 at James Place about 11:45 a.m., immediately after the incident. The man did not have a driver’s license, and police determined his license was suspended. The man was given a Jan. 5 Northfield Village Mayor’s Court date and released on a personal bond. Arrest warrants Jan. 3. Bedford police turn man over: Bedford police reported they had in custody a 24-year-old Solon man, wanted by Northfield Village Mayor’s Court for failing to appear on a speeding citation. The man was given a mayor’s court date and released on a personal bond. Dec. 23. Man turned over by Oakwood police: Oakwood police reported they had in custody a 49-year-old Cleveland man who was wanted by Northfield Village Mayor’s Court for failing to appear on a traffic violation. The man was given a mayor’s court date and released on a personal bond. Dec. 22. Man turns himself in: A 42-year-old Sagamore Hills man, wanted by the Northfield Village Mayor’s Court for failing to comply with a court order in connection with a driving without a license charge, turned himself in at the village police department. The man was given a mayor’s court date and released on a personal bond. Theft Dec. 24. Stereo speakers taken from vehicle: A Heights Avenue man reported someone took two stereo speakers from his vehicle while it was parked outside his apartment during the day. The man said he left the vehicle’s windows down. No damage was reported to the vehicle. Dec. 21. Credit card reported stolen: A village man reported someone took his credit card and charged $312 to it two days earlier. The man said he thought he left the credit card on the counter in a Route 8 service station store, but police said store security video showed the man placing the card back into his wallet. Police said the matter is under investigation. — Northfield Center — Property damage Jan. 3. Garage door damaged: A Brandywine Road man reported a vehicle struck his garage door, causing unspecified damage, during the night. Jan. 1. Mailbox post broken: An East Oakmont Way woman reported someone broke her mailbox post during the night. Identity theft Dec. 29. Account opened in man’s name: A Stow man reported discovering that someone in the township allegedly used his personal information to open a cable television account in his name after he received a letter from a debt collection agency informing him that he owed $55. Police said they are investigating.
