Macedonia -- Two Cleveland men are each facing a felony charge after an employee of a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store reported the men left the store without paying for a $698 desktop computer Jan. 20. Police said they also found a $74 air mattress in the men's car, which the employee determined was also taken from the store. According to Stow Municipal Court records, the two men, ages 48 and 59, did not enter pleas to fifth-degree felony theft and fifth-degree felony complicity to commit theft at their Jan. 20 arraignments. The younger man pleaded not guilty to criminal trespassing and drug paraphernalia possession, both fourth-degree misdemeanors, and the older man pleaded not guilty to driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor. According to a police report, an employee reported that after the men exited the store with the computer, they left the area in a car. Police said the employee was able to give them the car's license plate number and a police officer on patrol spotted it driving north on Interstate 271 near Route 82 and stopped it. Police said the younger man admitted to taking the computer, which was on the car's back seat, and the air mattress. Police said they also found a crack cocaine pipe in his backpack. Both men were being held in Macedonia City Jail on 10 percent of $25,000 bonds as of Jan. 25. Counterfeiting Jan. 19. Counterfeit bill found: A server at a Macedonia Commons Boulevard restaurant reported a woman gave her a counterfeit $10 bill when she paid for her dinner. Police said that after questioning the woman, they believe she was unaware that the bill was counterfeit. Police took the bill to turn it over to the U.S. Treasury Department. Theft Jan. 14. Money missing from cash register: A manager of a Route 82 restaurant reported discovering that $50 was missing from a cash register during an evening shift. The manager said several employees had access to the register, and police said the matter is under investigation. Mischief Jan. 10. Liquid found on garage door: A Riverview Drive man reported someone splattered his garage door with a reddish-orange liquid during the night. Police said the door was undamaged. -- Northfield Village -- Domestic violence Prowler Jan. 21. Man hears noises: A North Plaza Drive man reported he believes someone tried to break into his apartment after he heard noises outside his front door, which was locked. The man said he turned on an outside light and looked out a window, but did not see anyone. Theft Jan. 19. Items stolen from vehicle: A village man reported someone took several items from his unlocked vehicle while it was in his driveway during the night including a box containing prescription antidepressants, pain killers and blood chemistry regulators, two cell phone chargers, a global positioning system device, a radar detector, a flashlight, and four $5 restaurant gift cards. Police said they are investigating. Jan. 18. Mailbox missing: A Cranbrook Drive man reported someone took his mailbox during the night. The man said twice during the previous week, someone had knocked the mailbox off its post. Driving under suspension Jan. 14. Man stopped on Route 8: Police charged a Brecksville man, 39, with misdemeanor driving under suspension after they stopped him about 4 p.m. The man was given a Northfield Village Mayor's Court date and released on a personal bond. Jan. 10. Wife says husband slapped her: A 38-year-old village man pleaded not guilty to first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence at his Jan. 11 arraignment after his wife reported he slapped her in the face, bending her glasses frame, during an argument the day before. Police said the man denied hitting his wife. According to Stow Municipal Court records, the man was released from Summit County Jail on a personal bond Jan. 11 and is scheduled for a March 1 trial. Vehicle damaged Jan. 6. Woman reports vehicle struck: A woman reported someone struck her vehicle while it was in the parking lot of a Route 8 business in the afternoon. Police said several witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored pickup truck hit the woman's vehicle, then drive away, but they were unable to get the truck's license plate number.
