by Jeff Saunders Reporter Northfield Village -- Area residents who want to exchange precious metals for cash now have a place to go close to home. Brothers Sal and James Vecchio opened Jewelry and Gold Exchange in the former Best Gyros building, 10495 Northfield Road, on Dec. 19. Sal said the business purchases gold, silver and platinum, including jewelry. "We pass it along to a smelter.," he said. The brothers worked at Petitie Jewelry in the mid-1990s. They then entered the commercial construction business, starting a company that they still operate, but decided to get into a different business that they also knew something about. Sal received a license as a precious metals dealer from the Ohio Department of Commerce about four months ago. The brothers opened their first in Euclid Nov. 1. Sal said he and his brother decided to open their second branch in the village after they became aware that the building was available. "We thought it was a good location for traffic and distance from competition," he said. Jewelry and Gold Exchange is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and on Sunday by appointment.
