According to head coach Matt Cash, the Nordonia High School boys basketball team played its best game of the season to date against Northeast Ohio Conference Lake Division opponent Normandy on the road on Jan. 22.

The Knights pummeled the Invaders by the score of 46-27, thereby improving their overall record on the campaign to 5-6. They're also 3-3 in division action.

"It was the first game that we've played like a team all season long," said Cash. "It was nice to see."

The Knights were effective defensively, holding Normandy to just 15 points by the end of the third quarter. In fact, the Invaders only scored two points in the third stanza.

Although nobody reached double digits, Nordonia boasted a balanced scoring attack, as junior forward Nick Robertson and junior center Zach Lewis both tallied eight points. Senior guard Kory Clark posted seven points, and three Knights totaled six point apiece-senior center Kezmei Spencer, sophomore guard Jarred Ruffin and junior guard Brandyn Clark.

Rounding out the scoring for Nordonia were sophomore guards Patrick Osborne (three points) and Nick Rodriguez (two).

The Knights were also balanced in the rebounding department. Robertson, Lewis and Ruffin all pulled down eight boards.

Kory Clark dished out three assists, as well, while Brandyn Clark, Robertson and Rodriguez all accounted for two assists apiece.

Nordonia is scheduled to play a pair of non-division games this week. The Knights were set to host Kenston on Jan. 26 and will travel to Strongsville Jan. 29.

"We've got the toughest five-game stretch of the season coming up," said Cash. "We're starting three sophomores right now, and we might bring another one up [from the junior varsity team]. We don't have much depth, but we're playing hard and we're playing like a team."

One of the Nordonia players suffering from an injury is junior point guard Paul Ward, who will be out of action for the rest of the season. Ward hurt his hip during the football campaign, and unfortunately, the injury has not improved much since then.

According to Cash, Ward is going to have a MRI done on the hip, and he may need surgery.
