Macedonia -- City Council may decide to merge two levies officials say are necessary to avoid severe cutbacks in service and employee layoffs.

Council gave first reading Jan. 28 to resolutions authorizing two levies for the May 4 ballot: A five-year, 3-mill replacement operating levy and a new, five-year, 1.5-mill road improvement levy.

However, Council also asked the county fiscal office to certify what a 4-mill replacement operating levy would bring.
