by Devan Matthews Correspondent After losing a match to Northeast Ohio Conference South Division foe Cuyahoga Falls, the Nordonia High School boys and girls bowling teams bounced back to beat division rival Brunswick. Both matches were on the road. The Nordonia boys dropped a 2,700-2,542 decision to the Black Tigers at home on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Sophomore Jacob Clark rolled the high game for the Knights with a 229, while sophomore Robbie McGregor posted the high series. He bowled two games of 214 for a total of 428. Heading into the match, the boys squad was just one game out of first place in the South Division. With the loss, though, the Knights won't be able to catch Stow, which currently sits atop the division standings. "The boys kind of gave away first place," said Nordonia head coach Bob Glontz. "They don't have any chance of winning the division title now. The worst part is that it was a home match. Overall, we were disappointed with the Falls match." On the girls' side, Cuyahoga Falls won by the score of 2,188-2,056. Senior Lauren Krivos produced the high game for the Knights, bowling a 192. Sophomore Rachel Novak accounted for the high series, rolling games of 171 and 164 for a 335. However, Nordonia rebounded against Brunswick, as the boys beat the Blue Devils by the score of 2,565-2,422 on the road on Friday, Jan. 29. Senior Bryce Postolka boasted both the high game (244) for the Knights, as well as the high series (475). The Nordonia girls were victorious, as well, edging Brunswick by a 1,999-1,925 margin. Rolling the high game for the Knights was Krivos with a 213. She also contributed the high series with a 369. Glontz was pleased with the victory over the Blue Devils. "I expected the scores to be a little lower, since we were bowling at Hoover Lanes," he said. "That's an older house with wooden lanes, so the ball reacts differently. With that split of matches, the boys team now sports an overall record of 10-4 and a mark of 10-4 in the South Division. The girls, meanwhile, are 7-7, both overall and within the division. On Feb. 2, Nordonia was set to battle division foe Mayfield on the road. On Feb. 9, the Knights are scheduled to clash with Solon at home. On Feb. 5, though, the girls squad will compete in the NOC Invitational. For Glontz, the ultimate goal is the state tournament, which starts on March 5. "The teams [at the sectional and district tournaments] are tough," said Glontz. "It's not easy to get there. You have to roll good scores all the way across."
