World War II veteran

Family of William J Rickels will receive friends on Feb. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home in Northfield Center. Mr. Rickels, 88, of Northfield, died Feb. 13, 2010, at Hospice House in Cleveland.

Mr. Rickels served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He landed on D-Day, June 6, 1944, at Utah Beach and received five bronze stars. Mr. Rickels was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6768 in Northfield Center.

Mr. Rickels was the husband of Louise Rickels, nee Swisher; the son of John and Mabel, nee Kriescher, Rickels, both deceased; the father of Robin (Norman) Jansen of Barker, N.Y. and David Rickels of Northfield; like a father to Sherryn Diamond; and the grandfather of Victoria, Danielle, and Chloe.

Inurnment will be Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association.
