Sagamore Hills -- Police say that when they went to a Valley View Road man's home Feb. 6 to serve him a warrant, they had to force him out of a bedroom closet where he was hiding. According to a police report, two township police officers searched the man's home and discovered he was hiding in the closet. After he refused to come out, police say, an officer went into the closet and pulled him out. The man was then forced down onto a bed and handcuffed, police say, and turned over to Macedonia police. According to Stow Municipal Court records, a warrant was issued for the 39-year-old man's arrest in March 2009 on a first-degree misdemeanor violation of a protection order charge filed by Macedonia police. The man had pleaded guilty to the charge in October 2008 and was given a 10-day suspended sentence. The warrant was issued after the man failed to appear at a follow-up hearing. Township police also charged him Feb. 6 with obstructing official business, a second-degree misdemeanor. The man pleaded guilty to the obstructing charge at his Feb. 12 arraignment and was fined $100. The man was released from Macedonia City Jail Feb. 16 after serving his sentence on the Macedonia warrant. Operating a vehicle Feb. 20. Man stopped on Route 82: Police charged a 44-year-old Brecksville man with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, having a blood alcohol content over the legal limit, weaving across lane lines and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle after he was stopped at about 10:30 p.m. The man was given a Stow Municipal Court date and released on a personal bond. Suspected fraud attempt Feb. 17. Man receives suspicious checks: A township man reported receiving two checks in the mail totaling $9,500, each accompanied by a letter claiming he had won a total of $700,000 in a contest. Police said a police report was filed to document the incident. Arrest warrant Feb. 14. Woman turns herself in: A 38-year-old Cleveland woman, wanted by Stow Municipal Court for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor theft charge filed by township police, turned herself in at the township police department. The woman was given a municipal court date and released on a personal bond. -- Northfield Village -- Theft Feb. 16. Unauthorized credit card charges reported: A village man reported someone charged five purchases totaling $257 to his credit card account Jan. 20. Police said they are investigating. Arrest warrant Feb. 15. Woman wanted for speeding: Akron police reported they had in custody a 38-year-old Akron woman wanted by Northfield Village Mayor's Court for failing to appear in court on a speeding citation. The woman was given a mayor's court date and released on a personal bond. Driving under suspension Feb. 15. Man stopped for speeding: Police charged a 30-year-old Peninsula man with driving under suspension and speeding after stopping him on Route 8 about 8:10 p.m. He was given a Northfield Village Mayor's Court date and released on a personal bond. Feb. 14. Man stopped on Route 8: Police charged a Cleveland Heights man, 24, with driving under suspension after a random computer check of his license plate number showed he was suspended. The man was given a Northfield Village Mayor's Court date and released on a personal bond. Traffic accident Feb. 10. Driver hits car stopped for school bus: A Cuyahoga Falls woman, 26, was cited with failure to allow an assured clear distance ahead after a man reported she collided with the rear of his pickup truck while he was stopped behind a school bus dropping off children on Route 8 at 3:35 p.m. Police said there were no injuries, but the woman's car sustained disabling damage to its front end.
