Both the Nordonia High School boys and girls bowling teams advanced to the Division I District Tournament by virtue of their performance at sectionals this past weekend.

The boys squad competed at Legends Lanes in Cuyahoga Falls Feb. 19, finishing third in a field of 18 teams.

"There were only four teams in the house that bowled over 4,000," said Nordonia head coach Bob Glontz. "We were one of them, though, which was good."

Leading the way for the Knights was senior Bryce Postolka, who rolled games of 225, 237 and 175 for a 637 series.

"The boys had a good series of Baker Games," said Glontz. "They were over 700 for their first three Baker Games. That's good bowling."

The Nordonia boys will now participate in the district tournament at Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton Feb. 27. There will be 38 other teams at districts, and the top six will advance to the state tournament in Chillicothe the following weekend.

The Nordonia girls, on the other hand, performed even better than the boys, winning the sectional tournament at Charger Lanes in Norton Feb. 14.

"I'm really proud to say that the girls led the tournament from start to finish," said Glontz. "They stayed in first place the entire way."

Sophomore Natalie Nites paced the girls with a 607 series, which included a high game of 246. In addition, sophomore Rachel Novak bowled a 568 series with a 216 game.

Like the boys team, the girls squad enjoyed an exemplary run of Baker Games, posting scores of 235, 159 139, 202, 195 and 215.

Nordonia finished with a score of 3,807. The nearest competitor was 138 pins behind the Knights.

"It was just a super afternoon," said Glontz. "I'm very proud of the way the girls bowled. There were a lot of good teams there -- Walsh, Ellet and Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, to name a few. I knew all season long that they were capable of bowling better, and they proved it."

The Nordonia girls will compete in the district tournament Feb. 28, also at Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton. Once again, the top six teams will qualify for the state tournament.

As expected, it will be more difficult for the Knights to advance to Chillicothe than it was to advance to districts, but Glontz is optimistic.

"It's going to be tougher than it was this past weekend," said Glontz. "At this point, teams are always at the top of their game. We had a good weekend, and I think we'll have another one coming up."
