The Nordonia High School ice hockey team won its first game in the State Tournament recently. However, the Knights then dropped their next contest.

Nordonia defeated Aurora by the score of 4-2 Feb. 18, at Kent State University.

Then on Feb. 20, the Knights suffered a 10-0 defeat at the hands of Walsh Jesuit, also at KSU.

Nordonia and Aurora were tied 1-1 after one period of play. Brian Gura scored the Knights' goal in the opening quarter.

The Greenmen scored to seize a 2-1 lead at the end of the second stanza. Junior winger Mike Rudin found the back of the net in the third period to tie the score for Nordonia.

Later in the quarter, senior center Joey Kramp contributed the go-ahead goal, prompting Aurora to pull its goalie. As a result, Rudin produced his second goal of the contest, an empty-netter, to seal the victory.

Unfortunately, there weren't many highlights for the Knights in their shutout loss at the hands of the Warriors.

As far as the season overall is concerned, Nordonia head coach Joe Kramp was pleased with his team's performance, especially considering how young and inexperienced the Knights were overall.

"We left some shots on the ice in a few of our league games," said coach Kramp. "If we could have capitalized on those, our league record would have been a couple of games better. At the beginning of the season, we played a lot of games against teams from the Toledo area. Hopefully, the kids learned something and will build off of it.

"We're only losing three seniors this year, as compared to the seven we lost last year. We're looking to continue to improve in the off-season and get ready for next season."
