Letter: Says cuts are the only option for schools

Headline: Schools ask for money again.

They must be kidding. With the recent levy failure, what doesn't the School Board understand about taxpayers? Each special election can cost as much as $31,000.

Those school officials who retire should retire and don't double dip. They should give another person a chance to fill those openings. This will save the taxpayers money. Put that toward teacher's salaries.

I think the School Board wasted more money trying to get a levy through that failed twice. Then, after the levy did pass, the Board undershot the athletic field renovation costs and asked for donations. Unbelievable!

We are tired of hearing threats about cutting busing, extracurricular activities and pay to play. The School Board should forget the busing issue, as the schools will get paid from the state whether busing is cut or not.

With hard economic times, high unemployment, foreclosures and many taking 10- to 20-percent pay cuts to keep their jobs, if it comes to food in my mouth and a roof over my head, guess what is going to win? The money tree has gone dry.

We have given to the schools endlessly. It's time for the schools to give back. Hold administration and the teachers to the same standards we are now dealing with.

They should take 10-percent pay cuts to keep their jobs. Cut what they must to balance the budget. No more threats.

If they still can't meet the budget, they should cut again. Make it work.
