I am so glad that the levy failed. I was at a recent town hall meeting and stated times are not good. When levies get passed, we can't say, "Sorry, I am not working; can you let my payment slide?" I am waiting to see what threat they will put to parents and students. Last time it was no busing, which I think puts children in a dangerous situation. For one thing, there is a lack of sidewalks, and in the winter, sidewalks aren't plowed. Then, parents possibly have to put their jobs on the line by going in late due to the extra task of taking children to school. People have taken pay freezes, then reductions, while others have been let go. If people are losing their homes, how they are going to buy food? Why would they vote for a levy? I have been an electrical engineer for 24 years, so I have not lost a minimum-wage income. The value of the homes needs to be put at what they are actually worth, not what the schools want them to be worth. I live in Sagamore Hills and homes are being sold for a lot less then what they are being valued at. And many new homes do not have children due to certain restrictions, like prohibitions on play equipment in yards. Also, not all children in the area go to public schools, which saves the district money. The School Board needs to budget better, just like residents have to. Last year, when the athletic field levy was approved, maybe the Board should of instead weighed which was more important: Education or football? Frances Lancaster Sagamore Hills Comments
