Police News: Village police arrest man on felony warrant

Northfield Village -- Village police, with help from the U.S. Marshal's Service, arrested a Garfield Heights man in a Heights Avenue home Feb. 25 after learning he was wanted by the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas for a probation violation.

Police said they received a tip from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office that the 36-year-old man was staying in a basement apartment of a home owned by relatives. Village police requested assistance from the Marshal's fugitive task force, which includes a village police officer as a member, in the late morning arrest. Police said the man was taken into custody without difficulty and turned over to the sheriff's office.

Police said they also arrested the man's girlfriend, a 36-year-old Cleveland woman also staying at the apartment, and turned her over to Maple Heights police on a misdemeanor theft warrant.

According to court of common pleas records, the man pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree felony charge of using deception to obtain prescription drugs and was sentenced to one-year probation in November. The warrant was issued Feb. 24 after he allegedly failed to report to his probation officer.

Arrest warrant

Feb. 23. Woman turned over by sheriff's office: The Summit County Sheriff's Office reported it had in custody a Hudson woman, 47, wanted by the Northfield Village Mayor's Court for failing to appear in court on a speeding citation. The woman was given a mayor's court date and released on a $120 bond.

Violating protection order

Feb. 19. Woman reports man violated order: A Maple Heights man, 48, pleaded not guilty to a first-degree misdemeanor charge of violating a protection order Feb. 22 after a village woman reported he called her home several times during a two-week period and left messages on her voicemail.

Police said they arrested the man at his home Feb. 19. According to Stow Municipal Court records, he was released from Summit County Jail on a personal bond Feb. 22.

Domestic violence

Feb. 19. Woman says man punched her: A village man, 38, pleaded not guilty to first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence Feb. 22 after an adult female relative reported Feb. 19 that the man assaulted her during an argument at home the night before.

According to a police report, the woman said that after the man spit in her face, she held up her arm and the man grabbed it hard enough to bruise it. The woman said the man then punched her in the face several times.

Police said they arrested the man when he turned himself in at the village police department Feb. 21. According to Stow Municipal Court records, the man was released from Summit County Jail the next day on a personal bond.

Property damage

Feb. 19. Vehicle struck in parking lot: The owner of a Route 8 business reported someone struck her minivan while it was in the business' parking lot during the night, damaging its front bumper.

Theft

Feb. 18. Charges made against credit card: A village man reported that a business improperly charged about $60 to his credit card. The man said that after seeing a television advertisement for the business, he called its toll free number to purchase a $2 list of foreclosed properties.

When the man he was speaking to tried to sell him additional products, however, the village man said he declined and canceled his purchase. He said he called his bank a few minutes later and discovered the business had made three $20 charges against his credit card.

Police said the man's bank is handling the matter.

Domestic violence

Feb. 21. Girl says man pushed her: A 36-year-old township man pleaded not guilty Feb. 22 to first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence after a teenage relative reported he pushed her during an argument the day before.

According to a police report, the girl was uninjured, but the man allegedly damaged a laptop computer the girl was using and her bedroom door during the incident.

According to Stow Municipal Court records, the man was released from Summit County Jail on a personal bond Feb. 22.

Property damage

Feb. 21. Woman reports scratches on car: An Olde Eight Road woman reported someone scratched an obscene message on her car door while the car was in her driveway during the afternoon. A Summit County Sheriff's deputy spoke to several neighbors, but none witnessed the incident.

Theft

Feb. 12. Tanning lotion reported stolen: An employee of a Golden Link Boulevard business reported someone took a $9 bottle of tanning lotion from the business.
