Northfield Village -- A village man was sentenced to four years in prison Feb. 24 after he pleaded guilty to setting a November fire that destroyed a vacant Rosewood Avenue home.

Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison McCarty sentenced May Avenue resident Scott A. Hill, 19, after he pleaded guilty to second-degree felony aggravated arson, according to court records.

McCarty ordered Hill to the Lorain Correctional Institution until the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections decides where he will serve his sentence.

Hill's attorney did not return a call seeking comment.

As a part of a plea bargain, McCarty dismissed one count each of first-degree felony aggravated arson, fourth-degree felony arson, and fifth-degree felony breaking and entering.

The case of a second village man charged in the fire, 21-year-old May Avenue resident Francis W. Organiscak, is still pending. Organiscak pleaded not guilty to one count each of felony aggravated arson, arson and breaking and entering Feb. 5 and was being held in Summit County Jail on a 10 percent, $150,000 bond as of March 8.

"He denies any involvement in the fire," said Organiscak's attorney, Brian Pierce. "That's why we're proceeding to trial in this matter."

Pierce said a trial is scheduled for April 26.

The village, Macedonia, Northfield Center, Boston Heights and Oakwood fire departments responded to the Nov. 21 fire.

Village Fire Chief Gary Vojtush said the house was engulfed in flames. Vojtush estimated damages at $140,000, but there were no injuries.

Village Police Chief Mark Wentz said Hill was arrested later that day after a friend of Hill's gave police a recording of a phone call Hill allegedly made from inside the home.
