Nordonia Hills -- Art lovers attending the Nordonia Hills Chamber of Commerce's Community Expo at Nordonia High School March 20 are invited to take a side trip to the school's front lobby for the annual student art show.

"We have the show every year," said photography instructor Tim Naujoks. "It's basically the best pieces created during the year."

Art teacher Lisa Dressig, head of the school's art department, said this year's show will include ceramics, photographs, mixed media objects, paintings, drawings and cartoons. She said it is difficult to estimate how many items will be on display.

"I would have to say it is in the hundreds," said Dressig.

Naujoks said as many as 80 of the items on display will be photographs taken by students in the three photography classes offered each semester.

Although not officially a part of the expo, the show traditionally runs at the same time, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dressig said there will also be an opening reception March 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.

"That's more for students, their families and staff, but we certainly wouldn't turn anyone away," she said.

Appetizers and beverages will be served and there will be music.

Dressig said that although seniors will still have items in the show, for the first time it will not include the senior showcase, the annual display of works from the portfolios of seniors planning careers in art.

"We'll have a separate show [April 30]," she said.
