At the YMCA: 'Run for the Hills' 5-K race, 1-mile fun run coming in April

Register now for the 2010 Nordonia Hills YMCA Run for the Hills 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Walk

The event will take place on April 10, starting at 9 a.m. Registration is available online today at www.akronymca.org/NordoniaHills for $25 per runner, effective until April 7. The 1-mile Fun Walk is also open for registration at $15 per walker. You may also register the day of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. for $30 per runner. Race proceeds will benefit our Partner With Youth Scholarship campaign because the YMCA strives to make programs and membership available to all those who qualify. Race sponsors include Chick-fil-A of Macedonia, Fleet Feet Northfield, Graphic Traffic Promotions Inc., and Key Bank. Don't miss out, register today. Packet pickup will take place at Fleet Feet Sports Northfield on March 25 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Pick up your packet and head to Chick-fil-A of Macedonia for "Spirit Night" festivities, including a musical concert given by the Rev. Arnie Yost. The YMCA will receive 15 percent of your drive-thru or dine-in sales, further benefiting Partners With Youth if you visit our Web site to print and cut an invitation to Spirit Night.

Classes canceled
March 18 to 20

All Nordonia Hills YMCA classes are canceled March 18 to 20 due to the refinishing of the gym floor.

Classes affected include SilverSneakers Cardio Circuit on March 18, Tiny Tumblers on March 19, and Instructor's Choice and Karate March 20.

Register now for summer day camp

Summer is closer than you think. Y Day Camp is offered June 14 to Aug. 20. Enroll by April 15 and the $30 registration fee is waived.

YMCA Day Camp Director Wendy Scott has planned a super-duper camp experience. Weekly themes include:

Week 1: Blast into Summer.

Week 2: Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

Week 3: Animals Around the World.

Week 4: Sweet Tooth Week.

Week 5: Crime Scene Investigation.

Week 6: Jurassic Park.

Week 7: Weird Science.

Week 8: Super Soaking Safari.

Week 9: Mad Scientist.

Week 10: Final Fling.

Camp will be every Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekly fee is $ 150 per child for ages 5 to 12. Free extended care is available from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The weekly fee includes the cost of field trips, activities, afternoon snack, water bottle and camp shirt. We have rented a commercial bus and hired a driver with a commercial driver's license to transport kids to various metro parks one day each week, to Canal Square YMCA for swimming two afternoons each week, plus, a bonus field trip to favorite destinations including the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Akron Aero's Stadium, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Wagon Trails Animal Park, Great Lakes Science Center, Truassic Park, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, Great Lakes Science Center and the Macedonia fire and police departments. Finally, one day each week will be spent on our 30 acres of woods and fields for fun and games.
