by Devan Matthews Correspondent It was a tale of two seasons for the Nordonia High School boys and girls bowling teams. The boys started the season off like a ball of fire and then stumbled a bit, while the girls began the campaign slowly and then showed marked improvement toward the end of it. The Nordonia boys finished the regular season with an overall record of 12-4 and with an identical mark in the South Division of the Northeast Ohio Conference (NOC). The Knights ended up second in the final division standings behind Stow. "The boys started out well," said Nordonia head coach Bob Glontz. "They were 3-0 right off the bat, but then they lost a close match to Stow. Then we had a tri-match against another team and Stow, and we ended up losing two matches to [the Bulldogs] in the span of a couple of days. I don't think we ever recovered from that." Sophomore Robbie McGregor boasted the highest average on the boys' team with a 227. That was also the best average in the South Division. Right behind McGregor was senior Bryce Postolka with a 221 average. Postolka finished fourth in the South Division. "Bryce and Robbie were a big help to the team," said Glontz. "They're both excellent bowlers." The Nordonia girls recorded final records of 9-7 overall and 9-7 in division action. According to Glontz, the girls squad peaked later in the campaign, not reaching their full potential in terms of team chemistry until the postseason meets. "The girls didn't seem to gel early in the season," said Glontz. "They finally got together late in the season, really outdoing themselves at the sectional tournament. They proved that they're a better team than what their record showed, there's no doubt about that." Sophomore Rachel Novak registered the highest average for the girls team, a 172. Senior Lauren Krivos was right on her heels with a 171 average. The date for the Nordonia High School Winter Sports Banquet has been changed. Originally set for tonight, it's been switched March 24. The change was made because of the St. Patrick's Day holiday. Like the other winter sports teams, the boys and girls bowling squads will pass out their special awards for the season at the banquet.
