by Emily Canning Dean Reporter Chagrin Falls resident Bill O'Neill will face off against incumbent Steven LaTourette (R-Bainbridge) and Willoughby Libertarian candidate John Jelenic in the U.S. House of Representative's 14th Congressional District race in November. According to final but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections, O'Neill won the May 4 Democratic primary with 3,775 votes (62.21 percent). John H. Greene (D-Pierpont) received 1,278 votes (21.06 percent) and Dale Blanchard (D-Solon) tallied 1,015 votes (16.73 percent), according to final but unofficial results. Running unopposed in the Republican primary, LaTourette received 7,796 votes. Jelenic, also unopposed, received 43 votes in the Libertarian primary, according to final but unofficial results "Now the real work begins," O'Neill said May 4. O'Neill ran against LaTourette unsuccessfully in 2008, but the former Court of Appeals Judge and pediatric emergency room nurse said he thinks this year will be different. "There is a demand for a change in District 14," he said. "There is an incumbent frustration after the economic collapse of Northeast Ohio." "I would just like to thank everyone who did vote for me," said Greene, a machine operator at Chardon Rubber Co. "I might run for office again in the future, I would leave that option open." "I would like to congratulate Mr. O'Neill," said Blanchard, an accountant since 1984. "I would like to help Mr. O'Neill and advise him on economic issues. I would also offer help to Steven LaTourette if he wins the election." Ohio's 14th Congressional District is located in Northeast Ohio and includes the Cleveland-Akron area. The seven-county district includes all of Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties, and portions of Cuyahoga, Summit, Portage and Trumbull counties.
