by Eric Marotta Editor Incumbent Democrat Brian G. Williams will be challenged by Republican Lynn Slaby for the Ohio House of Representatives District 41 seat in November, after voters picked Slaby for their party's ticket May 4. Libertarian Candidate David S. Finley, a resident of Macedonia who earned 24 votes, will also be on the ballot, according to final, but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections. Slaby is a Copley resident who is a former Summit County prosecutor and Ohio Ninth District Court of Appeals judge. He earned 5,657 votes to defeat challenger Lance Reed, a 25-year-old Internet entrepreneur from Copley who earned 2,024 votes, according to unofficial results. Williams, who ran unopposed on the Democratic ballot, tallied 6,811 in the election. However, that picture is likely to change in the general election, when voter turnout is traditionally much greater. According to the Board of Elections, voter turnout May 4 was about 21 percent countywide. Williams, an Akron resident, is a retired Akron City Schools superintendent who has served as 41st District representative since 2004. He was last re-elected in 2008, defeating Republican Challenger Randy Cole. E-mail: emarotta@recordpub.com Phone: 330-688-0088 ext. 3171 Comments
