Macedonia -- Gail Wharton has been styling hair in the area for years, but now clients will not have to go to her home.
Wharton, who operated Reflections Hair Studio out of her Macedonia home for more than 20 years, opened 22nd Street Hair Studio at 779 E. Aurora Road, on the northeast corner of South Freeway Drive across from Memorial Park, on April 14.
Wharton said the studio has two stylists, including herself, and offers "all hair services," including cuts, styling, perms and coloring. The studio also offers laser hair therapy.
"That's where you can actually regrow your own hair if you're thinning or balding and that's for both women and men," said Wharton. "It actually stimulates the follicles."
Wharton said the process may not work for everyone, but she offers a free consultation.
"You can come in and see if you're a candidate for it," she said.
The studio also sells wigs and jewelry, including sterling silver and freshwater pearls, said Wharton. She has a separate room, where she can work privately with cancer patients seeking a wig.
Wharton described the studio's decor as "trendy and modern," with television sets ay each of the five stations.
With her parents financial help, Wharton opened a salon in Twinsburg called Hair Fair in 1976, when she was 19. She operated the studio for 11 years but, wanting to be at home with her children, closed it and began working out of her home in 1987.
For the last decade, she has also worked for two manufacturers of styling equipment, traveling to about 30 states to demonstrate the equipment's use.
"I educate other stylists on how to cut hair," she said.
Clients of the 22nd Street Hair Studio can make appointments, but "we can take walk ins," said Wharton. Hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
