Cleveland -- A corruption probe in Cuyahoga County has resulted in charges against nine individuals, including four northern Summit County men, in federal court.

The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio announced May 26 that the nine are being charged "in connection with the Cuyahoga County public corruption investigation," which thus far has resulted in guilty pleas by 18 individuals, according to the press release.

According to Ohio Northern District Court records, charges against Sagamore Hills resident Shannon Riley, 46; Macedonia resident Ronald Monroe, 42; and Hudson residents Christopher D. Krause, 52, and Kenneth Kushmider, 50, were filed May 26.

Riley's attorney, Kevin Spellacy, said he "negotiated in good faith" with federal authorities, requesting the charges be filed without an arrest. He said a court date has not been scheduled and declined further comment.

Attorneys for Monroe, Kushmider and Krause did not return calls before press time.

Krause did not return a call before press time.

U.S. District Attorney Ann C. Rowland, one of two U.S. attorneys prosecuting the case, declined to comment. Special Agent Scott Wilson, spokesperson for the Cleveland FBI office, also declined comment.

According to court records and a U.S. Justice Department press release, one count each of bribery in connection with federally funded programs were filed against Riley, owner of Cleveland-based Riley Industrial Services; Monroe, a principal in Solon-based Gemma Development Co., and Kushmider, owner of Landscape Design Associates.

Krause, former Maple Heights City School District treasurer, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit theft and 15 counts of bribery in connection with federally-funded programs, and one count each of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and obstruction of justice.

The investigation is ongoing, the press release states.
