Macedonia -- Police charged a 19-year-old Macedonia man with felony assault and obstructing officials business May 30 after they said they had to wrestle him to the ground and use pepper spray to subdue him outside a North Plaza Drive home. According to Stow Municipal Court records, the man did not enter a plea to fourth-degree felony assault and fifth-degree felony obstructing official business at his June 1 arraignment. He pleaded not guilty to second-degree misdemeanor resisting arrest. Police said they responded to the street at about 12:45 p.m. after a woman reported that another man had allegedly jumped onto the hood of her car, causing unspecified damage, then went into a nearby house. Police said the woman later declined to press charges against the man, but the Macedonia man, who was also in the house, became irate and yelled at police. Police said the man would not calm down when they warned him and when they tried to detain him, he swung his arms then pulled back his fist as if to throw a punch. Police said they wrestled the man to the ground and used pepper spray to subdue him. Police said the Northfield Village Fire Department treated the man and officers at the scene for pepper spray contact, then the man was taken to Summit County Jail. He was released June 1 on a personal bond and was scheduled for a June 7 pretrial hearing. Arrest warrant June 2. Police arrest man on street: Police arrested a 26-year-old Lincoln Drive man wanted by Northfield Village Mayor's Court for failing to comply with a court order in connection with a driving under suspension charge after they saw the man walking on Summit Drive with another man at about 10:40 p.m. Police said they stopped to question the men because although they are both over 18, police though they looked young enough to be in violation of the village's 10 p.m. curfew for minors. The Lincoln Drive man was given a mayor's court date and released on a $100 bond. Assault May 29. Man hits another man with beer bottle: A Macedonia man who struck another man in the face with a beer bottle at a Route 8 restaurant May 29 pleaded guilty to first-degree misdemeanor assault after the charge was reduced from a second-degree felony June 7. Beth Magelaner, bailiff for Stow Municipal Court Judge Kim R. Hoover, said Hoover reduced the felony charge to a misdemeanor after the other man attended the hearing and said he did not want to press the matter any further. Magelaner said Hoover sentenced the 21-year-old South Bedford Road man to 10 days house arrest, requiring him to wear a GPS ankle bracelet, and fined him. Police said they went to the restaurant at about 12:40 a.m. after receiving an anonymous report of a fight. Police said several witnesses told them that the man had struck the other man, a Maple Heights resident, in the face with a beer bottle during an argument. Police said the Northfield Village Fire Department treated the Maple Heights man for unspecified facial injuries at the restaurant. Property damage May 27. Holes found in home's siding: A Huntington Drive woman reported finding two small holes in her home's siding near her water meter. The woman said she believes the damage was caused by BBs. May 21. Vehicle strikes man's van: A Cuyahoga Falls man reported that while he was about to turn into a Magnolia Avenue home's driveway, another vehicle behind him struck the side of his van, causing moderate damage, while it was passing him. Police said they searched surrounding streets, but could not find the other vehicle. Disorderly conduct May 23. Party host cited: Police said they cited a Washington Drive man, 31, with disorderly conduct and persistent noise disturbances after neighbors reported people were yelling outside his home late at night. A village police officer reported that when he arrived, there were at least 25 people outside the man's home, guests at a party the man was hosting. The officer said the people were belligerent and another village officer, as well as two Sagamore Hills police officers and a Walton Hills police officer, were called to assist. Police said the man was uncooperative and insulted police, but after more than 20 minutes, he told his guests to either leave or go inside the house. Police said they then cited the man and left. -- Macedonia -- Theft May 31. GPS device taken from vehicle: A Forest Pointe Drive man reported someone took his $150 global positioning system device from his unlocked vehicle while it was in his driveway during the night. May 30. Fraudulent online purchase reported: A city man reported discovering that someone made a $984 online purchase against his checking account the week before. Police said the matter is under investigation. Property damage May 30. Men's restroom vandalized: A city parks and recreation employee reported someone vandalized a men's restroom near athletic fields in Longwood Park. Police said the barrier between two urinals was ripped off the wall and wet toilet paper was spread across walls, the ceiling and fixtures. May 28. Windows smashed at four businesses: Police said someone used a BB gun to smash the outer pane of the double-pane windows of four Macedonia Commons Boulevard businesses late in the evening. Police said a shopping center maintenance employee reported finding one window damaged at about 1 a.m. and police discovered the broken windows at the other three businesses. Police said they are investigating. Forgery May 28. Woman falsely signs police arrest forms: After police arrested a 28-year-old Akron woman for allegedly stealing items from two stores, they charged her with four counts of fifth-degree felony forgery after they said she signed a fake name on police arrest documents. According to Stow Municipal Court records, the woman did not enter a plea to the charges at her May 28 arraignment and pleaded not guilty to three counts of possession of criminal tools, two counts of theft and one count of falsification, all first-degree misdemeanors. The case was sent to a Summit County grand jury and the woman was released on a 10 percent of $10,000 bond from Macedonia City Jail on June 3. A Cleveland woman, 27, and an Akron man, 36, who were with the woman, pleaded guilty June 3 to misdemeanor complicity to commit theft charges. The woman was given a 60-day suspended sentence and fined $500 and the man was sentenced to 30 days, 25 of which was suspended, in Macedonia City Jail, and fined $250. Police said they stopped the car the women and man were in a short distance from a Route 82 store and found about $84 in clothing from the store in the car. Police said they also found clothing and other items of unspecified value that the Akron woman admitted to taking from a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store.
