by Eric Marotta Editor Macedonia -- A Munroe Falls man was flown by helicopter to Akron City Hospital June 2 after his car rolled over several times on Interstate 271 in Macedonia. A hospital spokesperson said Jerome Laing, 42, was in "serious" condition June 3, after having been released from the hospital's intensive care unit. A spokesperson said June 7 Laing had been discharged, but did not have information as to where. All lanes of Interstate 271 in Macedonia were closed briefly June 2 after police reported Laing's car rolled near an entrance ramp, trapping him inside in the right two lanes where the entrance ramp merges with the northbound lanes. No other vehicles appear to have been involved, said Macedonia Police Lt. Vince Yakopovich June 3. He said witnesses reported Laing had been driving north on the highway around 7 a.m. when he apparently made a rapid lane change, causing him to lose control as the rear of his vehicle slid sideways into a grass median separating the Route 82 onramp and the northbound lanes. Yakopovich said Laing was apparently unable to regain control of his vehicle, which he said slid almost completely sideways, facing northwest, and began to roll driver's side up. He said the car rolled a number of times and landed on its wheels across two lanes. Yakopovich said Laing has not been cited. Macedonia Fire Lt. Paul Celinski said Laing was found to have been wearing his safety belt. "He was alert and oriented," Celinski added. Editors note: This news was first reported June 2 on www.the-news-leader.com.
